Conditional Alias for Viewing Waveforms

The waveform view (nWave window) in the Verdi™ Automated Debug System provides the capability to attach an alias to the waveform value which gives a better way to visualize the waveform. Now the capability has been further improved for adding conditions, so that the tool can automatically determine which alias table (when there are multiple tables) should be applied based on user-defined conditions. The conditions can be created by one-bit signals or logical expressions which are combined by several signals. The following steps demonstrate how to create a condition for applying multiple alias tables:

1. In the nWave window, invoke the Waveform > Signal Value Radix > Edit Alias command to open the Alias Editor form. On the Alias tab of the Alias Editor form, create several alias tables and specify an alias name for each table.

2. Click the Conditional Alias/Slice tab of the Alias Editor form. Create a Condition Table and then specify the condition in the Condition column to identify which alias table should be applied under that condition in the Alias/Slice column.

3. The condition can be built by dragging and dropping one-bit signals from the nWave window  or by logical expressions which combine several signals. Clicking the Logical Expression button of the Alias Editor form will open the Logical Operation form for users to create logical expressions. Click the Add to Wave button in the Logical Expressions form to add to the waveform view after the logical expression is created.

4. The created logical expression can be added into the Alias Editor form by dragging and dropping from the nWave window to the Conditions column. After all conditions are specified, click the Apply button in the Alias Editor form and the alias table will be applied to the waveform view based on the given condition.
