SPRINGSOFT ANNOUNCES SUPERHERO STORY CONTEST WINNER
HSINCHU, Taiwan, December 08, 2009 - SpringSoft, Inc., a global supplier of specialized IC design software, has announced the winner of its superhero story contest. Based on a popular vote conducted on the company's web site, Vagner Pires, a design engineer at a large semiconductor company, was deemed to have the most creative story about how he overcame design and verification challenges to become an engineering superhero and make a difference in his personal life. The winning story will be featured in a new version of the SpringSoft anime comic strip featured on the SpringSoft website.
Pires' entry creatively presented how using the SpringSoft VerdiTM Automated Debug System allowed him to spend more time with his family. He based the short story on his past experiences having to work nights and weekend to perform tedious debugging tasks, sometimes missing out on quality time with his family. Once he adopted the Verdi system, he was able to quickly find the cause of design errors and correct them, dramatically improving his overall verification cycle and keeping his projects on schedule.
His winning entry is:
- It was a beautiful summer Friday, and Vagner had arranged with his family that they would travel to the beach that weekend.
- First, there was a very important simulation that had to be run to complete a project. But at around 4 pm, the simulation stopped!
- Vagner was desperate! Will I have to give up my weekend with the family over this?
- Vagner suddenly had a brilliant idea: I can use the Verdi System to find the bug and resolve it. Bingo! The bugs were found and resolved quickly, and the project would be completed without problems.
- On the way to the beach Vagner thinks to himself: Thanks to the SpringSoft tools, I can go to the beach with my family.
His winning text will be featured in a custom designed comic strip, using the creative anime style format SpringSoft first debuted at the 2009 Design Automation Conference. Pires will receive the original framed hand drawn artwork. Previous versions of the comic strip feature can be seen at http://www.springsoft.com/superhero_comics.
Pires was one of five finalists who were chosen from more than two dozen entrants who detailed a unique or extraordinary challenge they faced in the design or implementation of a complex IC. The entries ranged from descriptions of a difficult debug or verification issue, to a challenge arising from a large, complex design, to a layout or implementation issue. In each case, engineers detailed how they overcame their challenges and how doing so has benefited their lives.
